If you have state charges you don't necessarily need a federal attorney. However if you have federal charges, yes you need a federal attorney. An attorney that's admitted to practice in the district in which the charges are being brought. In addition to that, you need somebody who knows what they're doing in federal court. Federal court is not for everybody. I'd say about 85% of the attorneys that I know don't practice in federal court. They either don't like it, they don't know it, they're afraid of it. It's important to have an attorney who practices in federal court. I've practiced in federal court now for 25 years. I love federal court. It's not for everybody. It's important that every person that's charged in federal court knows that they're getting an attorney who's experienced in federal court.
