Under both Florida law and federal law, the police can forfeit your money or car. In Florida, it's called the Contraband Forfeiture Act. This allows them to seize property, money, your car, other property, that they think was used or intended to be used in the commission of a felony, or they may think that your money is just proceeds of a felony, you don't have a job and your money was made illegally. In this instance, though, they have to give you notice of seizure and give you an opportunity to be heard very quickly to get your property back.
You can't do this without an attorney. Only an attorney would know how to do this, so I urge anybody out there that's had this situation to contact an attorney as soon as possible.
